It is a terrible realization that Camu Tao's passing certifies Smashy Trashy 2 never happening. My favorite hip hop group since Heltah Skeltah (before Leak Bros.) and sadly their career shall be limited to one album.

I wrote this, in one of my hip hop communities, in response to Kanye bigging up Soulja Boy. I heard this news shortly after I heard a Soulja response to Ice-T telling Soulja Boy to suck a dick.
I might light some fires with this, but good.
I think this is the most unfounded statement I have ever read about hip hop. These are two artist, from a second [or even third] generation of an artform that started from a culture. I am sad to say, as much as you may like their music, they don't necessarily represent that culture.
Soulja Boy and his Macarena-esque "Superman" have undoubtedly set a new benchmark for the future of the music industry. I mean 3 million ringtones sold is going to make investors and the "money" in the industry listen. There is no way to sell 3 million of anything and not be paid attention to. But the issue to me is culture. Songs like this pop dance single AREN'T hip hop in my opinion. While it could be argued that he is bringing the party back, he is only bringing it back to the under 18 crowd, who I think may be too young to ingest hip hop when they aren't bred in it.
Kanye West and his larger than life epic productions are a far cry from BDP's basement, 4 track sound. Even his dustier sample sounds don't have the feeling you get when a Premier beat drops. The clean hyper stylized production is actually the SAME EXACT thing that never allowed Puffy any [hood] musical credibility. Remember laughing at "Shiny suit rappers"? Now everyone and their mother seems to be trying to be one.
I don't know. Hip hop is a reflection of the generally unheard voice of urban experience. It should reflect such experience and even be misunderstood by the general populace at times. This popular bullshit these dudes are putting out is made for My Super Sweet 16 and parties where dudes where yatch shoes. Something isn't right, if you ask me...
So, as of late, I don't get much comfort time at home. I am either at work, on my to or from, or playing GTA. The game has tapped into whatever it is inside of me that makes me NEED to play video games. That hasn't happened since Animal Crossing. Maybe Guitar Hero/Rock Band. But those don't compare.
In any case, Rockstar has outdone thremselves yet again. They have managed to maintain the integrity of the original Liberty City, and still add all the amenities of NYC on top to create an update to a classic that feels frighteningly real.
The first thing I did in game was Drive to the Bronx. How amazed was I to discover a dream come true. Northern Gardens. The GTA equivalent of my fair Co-op City. They have a part that looks just like section 5 or Drieser, depending on how you look at it. Community Centers, like we have them. A playground that resembles the new ones we have. A townhouse. Like 4 or so buildings. They even have a fake Riverbay logo, on similar posts to those that show the street names in Co-op. If only I could find a way to capture pictures.
Oh well. I am back on a sidekick. Hopefully, I will be able to post more often from it. I have four hours of travel time a day, I shouldn't completely idle it. But back on the legit grind, kinda. Back to paying taxes and all that good stuff.

I know I should always expect great things from Nintendo, on a personal level, even if the people don't understand. I saw the pictures. I read the hype. I even, at one point, fell out of favor with Nintendo expecting that they would flop...
Today I got my Wii. I got Super Smash Bros.
How could I have underestimated so much. How can this game also be SO much more than I had expected? Nintendo has outdone themselves again.
I never played the game, but I find the end credits of God Hand magical. Portal got me open for ending songs in video games, but who does it better than the Japanese. I mean really? Just listen to the lyrics...

I know I am supposed to feel some sort of way because it is a new year and what not. I just want to smoke a blunt and get my fucking laptop delivered. The sooner it gets here the sooner everything else... WoW, C++, guitar. Oh well. I guess since I know 08 doesn't start for me until February, I am just going to slow grind January. God I want February to happen.
